Use this guide to prepare a narrow, auditable registration request for a Québec or Vermont government-sponsored pilot. Your farm remains responsible; the agent supplies evidence and recommendations, not official grade decisions.

Start with a sponsoring authority. Neither Québec nor Vermont currently offers a public self-service directory for maple-quality AI agents. Do not send production, personal, or regulated data to an unapproved endpoint.

What this prepares—and what it does not

This guide produces a pilot-registration packet: it identifies the accountable farm operator, narrows the agent’s function, and gives a sponsor enough information to assess security, privacy, and regulatory fit. It does not create a business licence, a food-grade certification, or an automatic right to exchange data.

Québec and Canada

Use Québec’s digital-identity program as an identity/trust reference. For maple products, use the CFIA requirements and guidance. Grade claims remain governed by the relevant Canadian and Québec rules.

Vermont

Use the Vermont Agency of Agriculture Maple Program for maple quality, food-safety, labeling, and inspection requirements. A future agent-directory pilot would need a sponsoring agency and explicit terms.

Security baseline

Use a separate service credential for the agent, protect its private key, prefer short-lived credentials, and make suspension/revocation easy. The C=US glossary explains X.500, LDAP, X.509v3, ISO/IEC, ITU-T, and IETF support.

Human control

Keep a human quality manager in the approval loop. The agent may create a recommendation or evidence package; it must not declare an official grade, change a licence, or access another producer’s information.
